Testing College Students on their Knowledge of Sex Ed

In this video, several ASU students are put to the test when quizzed with sex ed questions they should have learned in school. While some knew the answers, others didn't. This video is meant to show how sex ed should be more accessible because questions like these should always be without hesitation.

Can you answer these sex ed questions?

Can women get pregnant on her period?

A.Yes! Women can get pregnant if they have unprotected sex on their period, but it is not common. Women are most likely to get pregnant before or during ovulation. If a woman has a shorter menstrual cycle, she is more likely to get pregnant on her period.

If you have an STI once, can you get it again?

A.Yes! While most STIs are diagnosed and treated, it is possible to get reinfected. Causes can be a failure to finish treatment, a partner not getting tested or treated and practicing unsafe sex.

Does Plan B still work if it isn't taken the morning after?

A.Yes! Emergency contraception (Plan B, "the morning after pill") works best if it is taken within 3 days of unprotected sex or contraception failure. Although, it is recommended to be taken earlier as it will be more effective.

Is a wallet a good place to store a condom?

A.No! The frequent use of a wallet can wear a condom down and tear the wrapping causing the condom to dry out and break during use.

Does using two condoms double the protection?

A.No! Using two condoms can cause more friction between them, weakening the material and increasing the chances of it breaking.

Interview with Steven Chapman

Steven Chapman is the Governing Board member for Tolleson Union High School District. In this video, Chapman discusses the issue of sex education in schools and the politics that surround it. Arizona is in need of better sex education programs and Chapman touches on what is needed to provide students with these programs and why they are important.
